Weill Cancer Hub East Summer Internship Program for Princeton Undergraduates

The Weill Cancer Hub East (WCHE) is a multi-institutional research collaboration that brings together Weill Cornell Medicine, Princeton University, and Rockefeller University to accelerate cancer research at the interface of nutrition, metabolism, and immunity. 

In summer 2027, WCHE is launching an educational exchange program for Princeton University undergraduate students to spend one summer in Weill Cornell Medicine laboratories, training in research areas aligned with WCHE’s mission. The program provides a 7-week hands-on research experience for rising juniors and seniors pursuing STEM degrees at Princeton University. Prior to the on-site internship, participants will attend a series of virtual seminars led by members of the WCHE Scientific Steering Committee. During the summer, students will be matched with WCM faculty, primarily WCHE investigators, and will explore how diet, the microbiome, metabolism, and the tumor microenvironment influence immune responses to cancer. In addition to research and mentorship, participants will take part in seminars and didactics; attend professional development courses through our partnership with the established MCC/EIPM summer program; and interact with WCHE investigators, Meyer Cancer Center (MCC) faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff. Through these experiences, students will develop core skills in cancer research methodology, experimental techniques, scientific communication, and professional networking.

Eligibility: 

  • Students enrolled full-time in a STEM degree program at Princeton University who will be rising juniors or seniors at the time the internship starts.
  • Over 18 years old.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must apply using a Princeton University email address.

Program Details:

  • Students will receive a stipend, and housing and meals support from Princeton University.
  • Before the start of the program, students will be required to complete medical clearance, including providing proof of COVID-19, MMR, and Varicella vaccinations, and TB Blood or Skin Tests.
  • The expected time commitment is 25-30 hours/week, approximately 25 hours of lab research and 2-5 hours of lectures/events.
  • All students are required to submit a final report and present either their summer work or an elevator pitch at an End-of-Program event.
  • There are no costs associated with this program.
  • Students are expected to be residing in New York for the duration of the internship.

  • Applications open October 12, 2026
  • Applications close December 14, 2026 
  • Pre-selected applicants are invited to interviews by January 18, 2027 
  • Finalist applicants are notified of final decisions by February 15, 2027
  • Monthly virtual seminars by WCHE Scientific Steering Committee members April – June, 2027
  • Medical attestations can only be completed up to 60 days before the start of the on-site program; appointments with physicians can be scheduled for the last week of April 2027 and on
  • Medical Attestation paperwork must be completed by the end of May, 2027
  • Program runs from late June through mid-August
