Dr. James Bussel, professor emeritus of pediatrics, won the American Society of Hematology’s 2023 Henry M. Stratton Medal for clinical/translational science. The prize honors two senior investigators who have made significant contributions to hematology research—one in basic science and one in clinical/translational research—that is well recognized and has taken place over a period of several years.

Dr. Bishoy Faltas, the Gellert Family-John P. Leonard, M.D. Research Scholar and assistant professor of medicine, was awarded the Young Investigator Award by the Society for Basic Urological Research (SBUR). Since its inception, SBUR has committed to education, innovation, advocacy and excellence in basic urology research. The award is given to members under the age of 45 who have made significant contributions to urologic research.

Dr. Joy Howell, assistant dean for diversity and student life and professor of clinical pediatrics, was selected for the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs’ Pediatric Leadership Development Program. The program helps develop the next generation of pediatric chairs who are poised to lead the profession through the rapidly changing environment of academic medicine and health care.
