Treatment options for patients with advanced stomach cancer

Monday, February 1, 2016

Manish Shah, M.D., Bartlett Family Associate Professor of Medicine and director of the Weill Cornell Gastrointestinal Oncology Program, speaks to Targeted Oncology about doing more than just surgery for patients with locally advanced stomach cancer.

He says an approach of perioperative chemotherapy is becoming a worldwide standard in the treatment of locally advanced stomach cancer, as well as herceptin in patients with HER2-positive disease. While chemotherapy appears to be the current best route, Shah added that the treatment can do harm to a patient as well.
