Community & Advisory Councils
The Meyer Cancer Center values community, patient, and family voices as essential partners in shaping cancer research, care, and engagement efforts across our catchment area.
Community Advisory Board (CAB)
The Meyer Cancer Center’s Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a diverse and representative group of volunteers who advise and guide the Center on how to meaningfully engage the community in cancer research, clinical care, and programmatic efforts. The CAB helps MCC better understand and respond to the needs of individuals residing in its catchment area.
Volunteers are asked to serve for a minimum of two years and are compensated for their time and expertise.
Priorities
- Identifying facilitators and barriers—for researchers and the community—to conducting community-informed research, clinical care, and programs.
- Identifying priorities for what MCC should do to advance its mission.
- Communicating MCC and community partners’ successes to external stakeholders across the catchment area.

Research Advisory Council (RAC)
The Meyer Cancer Center’s Research Advisory Council (RAC) bridges the gap between science and daily life by offering crucial feedback on research protocols and clinical trial designs. The RAC helps ensure that cancer research is understandable, relevant, and impactful for patients, caregivers, and communities.
- Bridges Science & Life: Translates complex science for lay audiences and brings patient and caregiver perspectives to researchers.
- Reviews Research: Provides input on clinical trial design, quality-of-life considerations, and patient-centeredness.
- Shapes Research Agenda: Helps researchers understand what matters most to patients and communities.
- Ensures Relevance: Maximizes research impact by ensuring studies are valuable and accessible to those affected by cancer.
Patient-Family Advisory Council (PFAC)
The Patient-Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is a collaborative group of patients, families, caregivers, hospital staff, and faculty who work together on issues related to patient- and family-centered care across the Meyer Cancer Center.
Patient and Family Advisors are Hospital Volunteers and are required to adhere to NewYork-Presbyterian Volunteer policies and procedures.
The PFAC meets at 2:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
