Selecting patients with HCC appropriate for minimally invasive therapy
David C. Madoff, M.D., professor of Radiology, speaks to OncLive about selecting patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who are candidates for minimally invasive therapy.
Interventional oncologists work with multidisciplinary tumor boards in deciding a patient's treatment plan, Madoff explains, regarding surgery, radiation therapy, and medicine. Curative procedures are tailored for patients with cirrhosis and have small size tumors. More palliative approaches are appropriate for patients with large tumor burden, where practitioners work to prolong survival and improve their quality of life.
